In my eco-beauty reviews for The Penny Rose’s predecessor, the Obsessive Beauty blog, I set out to share my favorite finds from the increasingly impressive market of natural, organic and vegan hair, skin and body care products. These natural offerings have come a long way in the last decade or two, but are still often written off as ineffective or too granola. However, following a lengthy quest to completely “green” my beauty routine, I resurfaced with complete faith that eco-friendly products could live up to (or outshine) conventional counterparts.
So, to kick off my cameos on The Penny Rose, I thought it would be fun to do a little round up of my skincare products du jour—items I believe to be further proof that green is a great way to go when it comes to beauty.
First up, my current favorites: the Vitamin C Revitalizing Complex and Lavender Protective Moisturizer from Naturopathica (naturopathica.com). The latter is my go-to daily moisturizer, complete with SPF 17, zinc oxide to protect from UV damage and turmeric root to reduce redness. I use the revitalizing complex at night, relishing in how my skin soaks up the light, vitamin-packed serum. I can’t say whether it is because of one or the conjunctive use of both, but within a week of adopting these two products, my skin tone was unmistakably more even and less red. Both are super hydrating and leave my skin soft, but never greasy. But not only do the items work (and well), the company gets extra eco-friendly points for using recycled packaging and sourcing local, American ingredients (all of which are natural and certified organic).
Another line that has caught my attention as of late comes from MyChelle Dermaceuticals (mychelle.com), an innovative company that combines natural ingredients with cutting-edge skincare science. The Fruit Enzyme Scrub stands out, in particular, as an effective exfoliant and face “polisher.” And although I’m not big on face masks (who has the time?), MyChelle’s Hydrating Cactus Mask is a delightful treat. It’s more like a cool, wet cream that you leave on for 20 minutes than a typical mask that dries up. (Side note: You can read my review of Ecco Bella’s Organic Dark Chocolate Face Mask, which I’m also a fan of.
Last but not least on my list of skincare picks is the Hydrating Sunscreen with SPF 30 from Pevonia (pevonia.com). As the weather warms up, I can’t wait to start slathering on this intoxicatingly floral-scented sun block. And for the man in your life, note that Pevonia has an Easy Glide Shave Emulsion that makes even the scruffiest face silky smooth.
